Sedation

Do you feel nervous, anxious or scared of going to the dentist? Well, you’re certainly not alone. This is a common problem that affects many people. Thankfully, sedation at Access Dental can help.

Easing Dental Anxiety

Sedation therapy offers a solution for those who experience dental phobias or feel apprehensive when visiting the dentist. At Access Dental, we create a relaxing environment so our clients can feel relaxed and at ease.

We have staff on hand carefully trained to administer our different sedation options in order to make your experience more pleasant while allowing us to perform any necessary treatments.

At our clinics, we offer two types of sedation dentistry: IV Sedation and Laughing Gas.

IV Sedation

IV sedation, which is also referred to as conscious sedation, is administered intravenously through a small needle.

Once injected into the vein, it works almost immediately, placing the patient in a very relaxed state and sleepy state.

This is commonly used for more complex procedures such as removing wisdom teeth or performing root canals.

Since this form of sedation therapy is a little more potent, it can take some time to recover from the groggy feeling afterwards, which is why it’s necessary to have someone escort the patient home.

Laughing Gas

Laughing gas, which is also known as nitrous oxide, is another common form of sedation therapy that we use in our clinics to help our clients feel at ease.

Unlike IV sedation, laughing gas is administered orally through a mask that’s placed over the mouth and nose.

After inhaling for a few moments, patients will feel euphoric and even a little giddy – hence the name!

This also keeps patients awake and aware of their surroundings without feeling any discomfort or pain. This is generally used more for minor procedures like tooth extractions.
